Deborah J. Notkin

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Deborah J. Notkin has over twenty years of experience practicing immigration law.  Ms. Notkin received her B.A. from Rutgers University and her J.D. from New York Law School, graduating cum laude in 1987.  Since then, she has been admitted to practice in New York, as well as the Eastern and Southern New York Districts of the U.S. District Court.  Ms. Notkin is a member of the New York State and Federal Bar Associations.

Ms. Notkin has worked extensively for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).  She has been an AILA lecturer since 1992, a member of the AILA's New York Chapter and Board of Governors, a Chairperson of the INS Eastern Regional Liaison Committee, a Vice-Chair of the INS Headquarters Liaison Committee, a Vice-Chair of the National Labor Liaison Committee, a Liaison to the ABA Immigration Committee, a Chair of the Essential Worker Committee, and a Chair of the Interagency Liaison Committee.  Ms. Notkin also served as the AILA National Treasurer of the Executive Committee from 2000 to 2002, as the Second Vice President from 2002 to 2003, and as the National President of AILA from 2005 to 2006.

Ms. Notkin is recognized nationally for her proficiency in immigration matters.  Ms. Notkin is a regular commentator in the media, including on MSNBC, CNBC, and Fox News, and has spoken on panels with representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, and the U.S. Department of State Visa Office.  She has also authored numerous articles that have been cited in immigration treatises.  Ms. Notkin has also been a prominent legal lecturer since 1996, regularly speaking at the New York State Bar Association's bi-annual immigration seminars and AILA's annual and regional conferences.  She has also presented at the Pacific and New York Chapters of the U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce and spoken at many universities and hospitals.

Ms. Notkin is the recipient of a wide range of legal honors.  She has been listed in Best Lawyers in America, the International Who's Who of Corporate Immigration Lawyers, and Chambers USA as recommended immigration counsel.  New York Super Lawyers listed her as one of the state's top immigration attorneys and one of New York City's overall top women attorneys.  Ms. Notkin has attained the highest possible rating of "AV" from Martindale Hubbell, the national directory of attorneys, indicating preeminent legal ability and the highest standard of ethics.
